Vermont realist Karen Winslow paints all of her paintings from life, not photographs. She and her husband, also an artist, are reviving and upholding the Old Masters’ techniques and traditional craftsmanship. They grind most of their paints, make their own mediums and varnishes, and prepare the finest Belgian or Irish linen panels or 100% rag paper, with the best grounds.
Karen’s paintings reflect many years of study with the great Classical painter Frank Mason, both at the Art Students League in New York City and in his landscape workshops in Vermont. She has traveled to Japan, where she demonstrated portrait drawing at the Gifu Museum of Fine Art. Her work resides in several museum’s permanent collections, and she has been a featured artist in American Artists magazine.
