Diane DuBois Mullaly is an award winning painter of miniatures in oil, and is also a devoted plein air painter. She seeks magical moments - some dramatic, some serene, to capture in paint.
To qualify as a true miniature, a painting is required to show the subject at no larger than 1/6 the actual size of the subject. A true miniature should "reveal itself" under magnification. In the language of miniature terminology, this means that under magnification the details of the subject will become apparent.
Diane's recent awards as a miniature painter include First Prize in Oils & Acrylics and Third Place in Landscapes at the 2006 Miniature Painters, Sculptors and Gravers Society of Washington, DC, 73rd Annual Exhibition; First Prize in Landscapes - Oil at 2006 Miniatures in Mariposa, Mariposa, California; Second Place at the 2005 1st Annual Miniature and Small Works Exhibit at the Chestertown Art League, Chestertown, Maryland; Third Place awards in both Animals - Oil, and Landscapes - Oil, at 2007 Miniatures in Mariposa, Mariposa, California; and Honorable Mention at the 2005 27th Annual Miniature Art Show and Sale at The Art Gallery of Fells Point, Baltimore, Maryland. As a plein air painter, Diane won First Place at the 2006 Plein Air-Easton! Mid Shore Competition, which qualified her as one of the 52 juried artists participating in Plein Air-Easton! 2006. At that competition, Diane was awarded Honorable Mention in the Quick Draw event by judge Camille Przewodek. In 2007, Diane was juried into the national Plein Air-Easton! competition.
