Gavin Brooks paints, in her own words, “in the tradition of the American post-impressionists.” Her artistic education began with childhood excursions into the wilderness with her father, and painting along the Maine coast with her mother.

Formal additions to Gavin's education came from Florida Atlantic University at Boca Raton, Florida, the College of Notre Dame, and The Schuler School of Fine Art, both in Baltimore. Gavin credits Scott Christensen of Wyoming, with whom she has studied, for her knowledge of her post-impressionist style.

Gavin Brooks won the First Place Grand Prize award in the inaugural Plein Air-Easton! Arts Competition and Festival, as well as Best Pastoral and an Honorable Mention in Easton’s second year of the Festival. Gavin's tonalist colors are her signature.

Drawn to subjects such as the western Maryland country side, Gavin's subjects also include water vistas, the meadows and marshes of Maryland's Eastern Shore, and storm clouds gathering in the sky. From small, color-accurate plein air studies and personal notes, Gavin's large studio paintings are created.

Gavin is listed as an artist in Who’s Who in America, and has participated in juried exhibitions from Taos, New Mexico and Richmond, Virginia, to Annapolis and Easton, Maryland.  She has been featured in one and two person shows in California, Montana, Massachusetts and Maryland.
