Betty Billups has been a professional artist for more than 25 years. Initially an illustrator, Betty turned to fine art after her 1977 One Artist Show, entitled Inner Feelings, at the Poindexter Gallery, Montana Historical Society, Helena, Montana. She has been a member of the prestigous Plein Air Painters of America (PAPA) since its inception in 1986. Betty's plein air oil paintings are complemented by her studio works. Some studio paintngs are created using slide references, while others are enlargements of pieces done on location.

Betty also paints mulit-paneled murals on comission.  Created on various lenghts of light weight canvas panels that are 1.5" deep  24" wide, these panels are then assembled in a jig-saw fasion to create a large murals which meets the needs of the room or stairwell where it will hang. All Betty's murals consist of a lower panel section painted en plein air, on location from the actual landscape. Then the upper panels, which incorporate the sky and clouds, are painted in her studio.
