Notes from Nancy ...
We are accepting last minute enrollments for award winning gallery artist Bethanne Cople's plein air workshop,  "A Passion for Paint!"  on May 5 and 6, 2007. This workshop is hosted on a beautiful, private waterfront estate in Nevitt , Maryland . $175. Bethanne shares her passion for paint, teaching the principles of plein air painting with an emphasis on paint application. Learn how she applies her paint with a loaded brush and a palette knife to achieve her sumptuous surfaces. Bethanne was cited as “an artist to watch” in the February 2006 issue of Southwest Art Magazine.

Gavin Brooks, Grand Prize winner of the first Plein Air-Easton competition has a few spaces remaining in her workshop June 18-22, 2007. Gavin is emphasizing a limited palette, and will demonstrate how she takes her field studies into the studio and uses them for reference to create very large paintings. Register now to guarantee your space.

Session One of Camille Przewodek's workshops in late July has filled, and we are taking names for a waiting list. There are still several spaces remaining in Camille's Session Two. Register now!

Our September Workshop in Quimiac, France has some spaces remaining for those artists who want to stay in the local two star hotel. In the vacation house, there is one shared room with two twin beds available, plus one twin bed in a shared room. Please call the gallery for details, 410-770-8350. There will be two information sessions in August for enrolled students.

We have added yet more information to our web page about Bills Schmidt's workshop, The Impressionist’s Palette, October 20 and 21, 2007. Please take a look!

As Canadian artist Robert Genn says, "Hooray, hooray, the first of May, outdoor painting starts today!"
Well, I may not be outdoors but at least I have both studio windows open, the cross breeze is lovely and I can hear the birds chirping away. Guapo, my little Jack Russell terrier, is asleep in the sun on the window sill, dreaming of the white-tailed rabbits that populate our neighborhood.

This month, the main galleries are abloom with our Flowers and Gardens show. Well-known Maryland artist Barbara Nuss is our featured guest artist for this group show (www.barbaranuss.com). Joining her are Dawn Barnes, Eleinne Basa, Barbara Beauchamp, Betty Billups, Dee Beard Dean, Bernard Dellario, Tracey Frugoli, Robert Kirkpatrick, Diane DuBois Mullaly, Carol Ross, Jason Tako, Nancy Tankersley, and Karen Winslow; painting all that grows, from wild flowers to formal gardens, in studio still lifes and en plein air. This show continues through May 30, 2007. If you are unable to make the opening, do stop in Saturday morning at 10AM for our Morning After Coffee.

In time for Mother's Day, we are also having a SPECIAL TRUNK SHOW Saturday May 6 and Sunday May 7. Estelle Vernon shows her finely crafted jewelry in precious metals. Estelle will be at the gallery all weekend. Stop in and learn how Estelle finds inspiration for her designs from things founds in nature.

Thank you to all who made April such a great month for the gallery. Sara Linda Poly and Tracey Frugoli put on a spectacular show! Tracey's workshop was a great success, despite the weather, and all found her to be a generous, warm and funny instructor. We look forward to seeing these fine artists at the third annual Plein Air-Easton! Competition and Arts Festival, July 22-29, 2007.

If you plan to purchase  tickets for the Collector’s Party or the Sunday Brunch, please do so right away. Ticket sales are way ahead of last year, and I wouldn't want any of you to miss these two fun events. There are also plenty of free events (more than last year), and don’t miss the annual Saturday afternoon Quick Draw competition and exhibit! Please go to http://www.pleinair-easton.com to see a complete listing of events and to purchase tickets.

In April, we were honored to have the grand prize winner of last year's Plein Air Easton, Tim Bell, join our stable of gallery artists. Tim is fast becoming one of the most collected artists on the Eastern Shore, and his beautiful paintings of skipjacks ring with the authenticity of a true Chesapeake Bay experience. A former working waterman, Tim is motivated to capture the skipjacks en plein air while they still exist and are more than a distant memory.

And now ... back to painting!
