Notes from Nancy:

Freshly back from San Miguel de Allende in Mexico, I'm seeing my home environment with new eyes. Sure, the colors were bright and beautiful in that charming Mexican mountain town, and the blue of the sky was pure cobalt. Even though I'm finding these last days of winter very, very cold;  I'm also finding much to like about my own home town on Maryland's Eastern Shore. There's a harmonious beauty in the bare winter forests and the stately old buildings of downtown Easton that make me glad to be home. Perhaps that's one of the best benefits of travel -- a renewed appreciation of where one lives. Change is good for everyone.

We have a lot to be excited about in the upcoming season!

First, for students of art and art-lovers alike, Tracey Frugoli will kick off her two day workshop with a free lecture and demo here at the gallery on Friday, March 28 at 7 PM. A three-time winner at Plein Air-Easton! and First Place Winner at the Havre de Grace (Maryland) Plein Air competition, Tracey is a talented young artist with much to share. At her demo, Tracey’s workshop students will be given the front row seats. But if you are not a workshop student and would like to watch Tracey’s demo, please call the gallery to reserve a seat.

in the latest issue of The Nature Conservancy Magazine – the result of a collaborative project between The Nature Conservancy and the Washington Society of Landscape Painters, in which each artist was assigned a particular Nature Conservancy property that they visited several times over the course of a year. My painting, Choptank Wetlands, as well as works by Ed Cooper, Bethanne Kinsella Cople, Sara Linda Poly, and Bernie Dellario were included in this article, along with interviews about our experiences during this project.

You may visit http://www.nature.org/wherewework/northamerica/states/maryland/news/news2530.html to view many of the paintings. All twenty-two paintings will be exhibited, in venues to be determined, and all of the paintings will be for sale through the Nature Conservancy.

Finally, an opportunity not to be missed for plein air painters and collectors alike, the Second Annual Gunpowder Falls Plein Air Competition will be June 5-7, 2008, and for the second time, I will be the awards judge. This is a wonderful opportunity for those new to plein air competitions because this event is open to all plein air painters. The exhibit of competition paintings is at the charming Diddywopps and Keefers Gallery in Monkton, Maryland, where the collector’s reception will be on the evening of June 7. For more information about this competition and its rules, go to www.gunpowderfallspleinair.com . If you have never visited this bucolic region north of Baltimore, of hills and dells, horse farms and pastures, I can't recommend a better time. I hope to see many of you there!

Now, back to the studio!
