NEW! Bethanne Cople's Plein Air Workshop "A Passion for Paint!",  May 5-6 , 2007

Award winning plein air painter Bethanne Kinsella Cople shares her passion for paint, teaching the principles of plein air painting with an emphasis on paint application. Learn how Bethanne applies her paint with a loaded brush and a palette knife to achieve her sumptuous surfaces. Bethanne was cited as “an artist to watch” in the February 2006 issue of Southwest Art Magazine. Please go to our website for details!

Don't forget our workshops with Tracey Frugoli on April 14 and 15, 2007, and Gavin Brooks June 18-22, 2007. Several spaces are still available in each. These workshops are filling quickly, so register now to guarantee your space.

Our September workshop in Quimiac, France is almost filled, as is Session One of Camille Przewodeck's workshops in late July. There are still a few spaces remaining in Camille's Session 2. Register now!
Thanks to all who wrote to tell us how much they enjoyed our first newsletter. We are excited about this opportunity to stay in touch with our collectors, gallery artists, workshop students and everyone who has expressed an interest in what we are doing here at South Street. With this cold, cold February, gallery traffic has been light. We look forward to some spring weather and actually seeing your smiling faces again!

One of the new events we are starting in March is a Morning After Coffee on the first Saturday of each month, following our Friday evening exhibit openings. We know it is difficult for many of you to get here during the First Friday Gallery Walk from 5 to 9 pm, when we traditionally open our shows. So we thought it would be fun to give you another opportunity to see the exhibit while it is still fresh, meet the artist(s) and enjoy a nice cup of coffee and a sweet. See you at 10 AM!

This month, in our Workshop Teachers and Students show, we are proud to showcase the works of our gallery artists who teach in our extensive workshop program, along with works by of many of their students. Come early and you might just pick up a treasure from a blossoming new talent!

In addition, we are showcasing paintings of Quimiac, France, by Ed Cooper, Bethanne Kinsella Cople, Sara Linda Poly and Nancy Tankersley. Last year, this foursome took an exploratory trip to this quaint village to scout out the best painting locations for our September 2007 workshop. For those of you enrolled in this workshop, you can get a preview of what you'll be painting; and for those of you "thinking" about it, this might be just what you need to help make your decision. At this time, in the student house we have one bedroom with twin beds and a shared bath remaining, and there are three non-lodging slots available. Please check out the web site workshop page for full details.

Now, back to the studio!

"The ideal is to foster not isolation, but connectedness. Art of any kind must affirm human values –
even if these values are often put aside in the pursuit of comfort. " (Brett Busang)
