Spring has finally shown itself in Easton! The forsythia bushes and pear trees are in full bloom, with the cherries only slightly behind. My plein air painting equipment is out, and I am raring to go!
This month brings us Passionate Painting! Tracey Frugoli and Sara Linda Poly have created fresh new works especially for this exhibit, here at South Street Art Gallery. Please note that the opening reception has been moved to Friday, April 13, due to the Easter holiday. The show will be hung and ready for viewing by Friday, April 6 so if you are in town, do stop in to get a preview. Tracey is coming to us from Chicago and will be teaching a workshop here on April 14 and 15. If you are at the gallery at 6:30 pm on Friday, April 13, you can "audit" the talk and slide show that Tracey will be giving for her workshop students (in the second floor gallery). Unfortunately, Sara has scheduling conflicts and will not be at the opening, but you can see her in July at the Plein Air-Easton! Festival. If you can't be here for our Friday night reception, please stop in on Saturday, April 14, for our "Morning After" Coffee, from 10 to noon.
Thank you to all the workshop artists who sent us their work to be displayed in March. We had many visitors, and many compliments on the quality of the paintings.
The artists juried into Plein Air-Easton! 2007 have been announced and WOW... did our South Street Art Gallery artists do well! We have a total of 12 artists participating and are we proud! They are D. Eleinne Basa, Gavin Brooks, Michael Buddin, Ed Cooper, Bethanne Kinsella Cople, Dee Beard Dean, Tracey Frugoli, Robert Lewis, Ross Merrill, Diane DuBois Mullaly, Sara Linda Poly, and Scott Prior. Note that our own Diane (Fine Art Consultant for the gallery) is one of the three local artists who made the cut. GO Diane! An accomplished miniaturist, Diane is showing that she can also paint larger and do it very well!
We will be adding First Look to our e-mailings this month. With this new feature, no more often than once a week, we will send you an image of a new painting that is on its way to or has just arrived at the gallery. We hope that you enjoy this feature, and if anything strikes your fancy ... just give us a call!
As for me, I'm working on some new paintings to go into our May Flowers and Gardens Show ... it should be a good show with some invited guest artists as well as our gallery regulars. Another of my "restaurant" paintings won an award at the Art League of Alexandria, Virginia, this month. I'm also working on a new series of contemporary life paintings which will be featured here in August.
Hope to see you soon. Now, back to the studio!
